EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon football fans got the first glimpse at their 2025 squad in the team's spring game on Saturday, with the Fighting Ducks (White) taking down the Combat Ducks (Black) by a score of 24-20.
With spring practices closed to the media, this was the first chance to catch a glimpse of how next season's roster may shake out, including an offensive line unit that lost four starters (Josh Conerly Jr., Ajani Cornelius, Marcus Harper II, and Nishad Strother) from a year ago.
After tracking line groupings across the first three quarters of Saturday's game, let's break it down to offer some insight into who could be protecting quarterback Dante Moore come fall.
We'll start with the most important position on the line, the left tackle, who will once again be a blindside protector for the Ducks this season after lefty Dillon Gabriel moved on to the NFL Draft. Transfer Isaiah World will be expected to take over for Conerly at left tackle after allowing just a single sack a season ago at Nevada, and accordingly handled most of the snaps at the position on Saturday, starting six of the first seven series there for the Fighting Ducks.
The other tackle spot is where things get more interesting, as the Ducks saw more rotation at the position. Texas State transfer Alex Harkey started for the Combat Ducks and played in six of eight series. His main competition will be redshirt sophomore Gernorris Wilson, who started at right tackle for the Fighting Ducks, but also received some run protecting Luke Moga's blindside.
"You can run behind me, that's what I want," Harkey said. "That's what I want my identity to be at the end of the day. I run through someone's face."
In the middle, Iapani Laloulu will be back at center, where he started Oregon's final 12 games last year. He handled the majority of the snapping duties for the Fighting Ducks, while Charlie Pickard, who started Oregon's first two games at center last year, took the majority of the snaps for the Combat Ducks. Redshirt sophomore Bryce Boulton and redshirt freshman Devin Brooks were the other two players to handle snapping duties.
While center will be taken by Laloulu, Oregon's guard positions should be much more up in the air heading into the fall. Matthew Bedford is back for his seventh season of college football after appearing in just one game for the Ducks last year as a transfer from Indiana and should heavily factor in at right guard, where he started the first four series for the Fighting Ducks. The Ducks' other options will include USC transfer Emmanuel Pregnon, who started six of the first seven series at left guard for the Combat Ducks, Kawika Rogers, who started at left guard for the Fighting Ducks, and Dave Iuli, who started four games at right guard last year after an injury to Harper.
Among Oregon's youngsters, redshirt freshman and former four-star recruit Fox Crader featured most heavily, starting five of the Combat Ducks' first six series at left tackle. Trent Ferguson, a former three-star redshirt freshman, received some run at right tackle while four-star freshmen Ziyare Addison, Demetri Manning, and Douglas Utu saw playing time at left tackle, left and right guard, and right guard and tackle, respectively.
"We're gonna be good in a couple of years, not gonna lie," Harkey said of the Ducks' talented young linemen.
"A lot of great freshmen," Moore said. "I know a lot of them are gonna play for sure."
